McLennan enlisted in 1917 and travelled to Europe as a machine gunner. White later employed McLennan to travel the Gulf country where he secured the large venomous snake later named âœOxyuranus maclennaniâ. Results published by MacGillivrary in "Emu". Accompanied W.D.K MacGillivray in many scientific expeditions and was employed to explore and collect new species on Cape York Peninsula and around the Cloncurry area. He was a naturalist with particular interest in Ornithology. William Rae McLennan was born at Sandford, Victoria on Aug 20, 1882, and died in Casterton 22 September 1935.
